Finally the Nose and front wings for the 1:12 McLaren M23, as used in Spain (Yardley and Texaco-Marl) and Monaco (Texaco-Marl), 1974 are available. Part # AZMP M23 1208.

This is what you will receive in the set Nose cone, Left and Right hand wing elements, two plastic angle lengths for the Gurney flaps on the rear of the wing elements, and a template for you to make your own wing endplates.

I assembled a set so you can see how it would look. First using the templates, I made some endplates out of 0.015" thick Aluminum plate (because it is more rigid than plastic sheet the same thickness). With a little preparation, dry-fit, primer, and sanding I then glued the end plate and gurney flap on the wing element and trimmed the excess off the locating pins. Then sprayed them with a "rattle can" white primer, followed by TS26. You will have to forgive my photography. But you get the idea.

Once the paint was dry, I set up the nose (which I had pre-drilled for the wing locating pin, and painted) using some model putty to adjust the wings to the correct position.   And glued them in place.

I applied decals to each side of the wings to match the split paint job I had done on the Nose. Just so you some idea of what they will look like assembled. (click thumbnails for full size images.)

I have not decided on the packaging, completely yet, but I will have that sorted this week. (W/E 6/14/13) The set will retail for $35.00.

Also the M23 Windscreen surrounds are ready, (AZMP M23 1213) I am working on the "bucks" for vacuum formed windscreens now.

You can see the 5 locating pins on the bottom 4 of them will locate in the holes on the kit body, the 5th will require you to drill a locating hole at the front of the body, or cutting off the pin.

I did a quick paint job and applied some decals Unfortunately I used the master instead of a cast resin part. I initially gave it a gray primer coat, then sanded it and then a white primer coat, that is where I made my mistake. The white was not thick enough and so the gray gave a darker undercoat in places.

Anyway, I followed that with a couple of very thin coats of TS39. After letting that dry, I applied a number of fairly wet coats of MS9. This gave me a color fairly close to the florescent of the Museum collection decal, but was still too red. After some sanding with wet/dry paper, I gave it some coats of MS8, which seems to have given it a much better color, which I like.

Here it is sitting on a sheet of the Museum collection Decal paper It is actually still darker than the decal sheet. Then another problem showed itself after I applied the Texaco decal, the surround of the decal color does not match. Cut the orange part out of the decals before applying them will resolve this. (A challenge yes, but worth it)

The painted and raw cast part side by side, well end to end

The windscreens for these should be ready fairly soon.
